BREED STANDARD NEW ENGLISH BULLDOG.
General descriptoin:
The ideal New English Bulldog is a smaller medium sized dog with a stocky and very muscular body, a large and powerful head and s strong english bulldog look in type. They appreciate activities like spring pole and agility and thrive to please their masters with whom they have a strong bond,
reason why they are not suited to be kenneled.
Their lifespan is about 10 and 14 years.
Head : Large in proportion to the body, it should be greater than 20% of the height of the dog at the witthers. Deeply sunken between the eyes, extending up the forhead wich is musceled (dome). Head is wrinkekled, without exageration.
Dewlap will have 2 well marked folds. Flews are semi pendoulous. There should not be excessive skin on the head, a slight fanon is present. The head should appear round in profile when mouth open, the snout should not give the appearance to sand out of the face.
Ears :
wide set appart rose ears are prefered, set higher as level with the skull (not like the English Bulldog), fly away, half pricked or small button ears are accepted. Fully pricked ears or large dropped button ears are DYSQUALIFYING FAULTS.
Muzzle:
very short, wide at the base and broad, abut 1/4 of the total length of the skull from the occipitus to the point of the nose. Minimum length of the muzzle 2 cm, maximum 5 cm from the stop (not medial furrow) to the tip of the nose.
Jaws:
The bite is undershot 2 to 2,5 cm. Scisor bite, inversed scisor bite, bite or wry jaw are DYSQUALIFYING FAUTLS. Jaw bone is wide and jaws are well musceled.
Theeths:
Lower canines should not protude when the mouth is close, lower incisive may show. 6 Incisive come in a even row between the canines. More than missing P1 is a FAULT.
Eyes :
Wide apart, round and of moderate size. Any color is acceptable. The surrounding is tight. Tendance to Entro- extropain are FAULTS.
Nose:
large of solid color black or adapted to coat if dilute. Nares are open without air restriction. A dudley nose, lack of pigment is a cosmetic FAULT. A nose lacking all pigment is a DYSQUALIFYING FAULT.
Neck :
short and nearly wide as the head, flowing into the muscular sholders without giving the impression to make a stop between the neck and shoulders.
Chest :
wide and ribs well rounded. The depth of the chest should be at least to the ellebows. A narrow chest is a SERIOUS FAULT. Seen from front you should see a square, mesure from feet to feet, and from feet to corner of the armpit, 100% in width, and 100-125% in height.
Back :
short, should give the appearance of a perfect square in proportion to the body. 100 in height, 100-120% in lenght. The females may have a longer back in consideration for pregancy.
The topline is roached or level with a very slight rise from the croup to the shoulders or inverse. A saddle back is a FAULT.
Shoulders :
wide, broad and muscular with significant angulation to allow for good movment. Straight shoulders is a FAULT.
Forequarter :
Forelegs are straight and set wide appart. East/West forelegs is a FAULT. Lacking bone is a SERIOUS FAULT.
Hindquarter:
Legs have a moderate angulation at the stifle seen from side. Legs seen from behind are straight. Bandy legs (in O) is a FAULT. Cow hooks (in X) is a SERIOUS FAULT. (See graphic below)
Ellebows:
are relatively close to the body, slightly appart from the body is admitted but not loose.
Movement :
Dogs should have a balanced powerful gait and be able to make hops.
Feet :
Round, tight both front and rear, and the pasterns should be strong.
Weak pasterns and/or splayed feet (pigeon toes) are disqualifying faults. Front feets can be very slightly turned out.
Height :
females - 38 to 40 cm, males - 40 to 42 cm, at the witthers. A size - or + 3 cm is acceptable, a size more than + 3 cm above the standard (incusive the tolerance of +3cm) is a SERIOUS FAULT.
Weight :
20-30 kg for females, males 22-35 kg.
Coat :
Any colors are acceptable with no preference for one over another: White, black, black and tan, chocolate, red, fawn, blue, lilac, also version of these colors with piebalding, brindles, sables, tricolor. The coat is short. A wavy coat or a long coat is a disqualifying fault.
Tail :
A straight spike tail, or half tail is prefered or screwed if well definied, kink tail and full tail accepted as docking is prohibited in Europe.
Temperament :
mellow and outgoing. Agression against humans, without provocation is a DISQUALIFYING FAULTS.
Attention will be given for matings to meet the standard, a longer nosed dog (maximum of the standard) should be bred to a shorter nosed, and a taller (maximum of the standard) dog to a smaller (minimum). Faults will not be doubeled up in breedings and selection will be made to complete each other.
Males should exhibit 2 testicles, fully dropped in the scrotum. Chryptorchidy is a DYSQUALIFYING FAULT.
